Some may remember getting a report card in elementary school which provided marks on Achievement and Personal Growth. The latter included things such as being courteous, preparedness, etc. Focusing only on achievement has the potential to produce rude and selfish adults, for example. If you don’t agree, just remember working with a high achiever who was always disrespectful – how did that work out?

So, someone says they admire Robert E. Lee but they claim not to be racist. Do they realize Lee fought to keep black people enslaved? Rewriting history does not help anyone so what are the implications of having a self-denying manager of history in the workplace?

Lack of objectivity can lead to major consequences where a problem is misdiagnosed and a team can spend time and resources to “fix” a problem which does not exist. So, how do you manage subjectivity?

If someone asked you to tell them about you – what would you say in 30 seconds? It is easy for some to give too much information and so you lose their attention. A “sandwich” approach can be helpful so what would you say in the top – middle – and bottom in less than 30 seconds?

Most of us feared at least one or two topics in school – mine were chemistry followed by statistics. So, after so many years decided to revisit my good old friend statistics and found a way to enjoy its company. Incentives are a great management tool but sometimes they lose their appeal and effectiveness. So, what have you done when this happens?

Some strongly suggest having connections is part of having a successful career. Unfortunately, some connections are only in name as they will not even respond to a basic text or email. And, for those who respond, some will be quality vs. weak connections so how do you differentiate between the two?
