Again, why some people defend the indefensible?

Reality check, some just make excuses for people who consistently behave badly and unfortunately we are talking about adults and not kids. It does not matter the platform because it is a fact that indefensible behavior, for example, at work hurts morale and productivity which impacts the bottom line. So, if someone defends the indefensible, would you say they are in denial?
